Russian · TORFL Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 1

Здравствуйте Hello

Zdrávstvuyte

Your first words of Russian — and the first hurdle: a new alphabet, Cyrillic. The good news: some letters match the Latin ones (А, К, М, О, Т sound almost the same). The bad: there are "false friends": В is "v", Н is "n", Р is "r", С is "s", У is "u", Х is "kh". They look like Latin B, H, P, C, Y, X but sound completely different — the biggest trap. Under each word there's a Latin transcription with the stress (a crutch we'll wean off). We start with greetings — здравствуйте, привет — and da / net / khorosho. Standard Russian.

Здравствуйте — Saying Hello

  1. Ivan Здравствуйте! Доброе утро, Аня. Hello! Good morning, Anya.
  2. Anya Привет, Иван! Добрый... день! Hi, Ivan! Good... afternoon! (it's not morning anymore)
  3. Ivan Добрый день? Хорошо! Good afternoon? Okay!
  4. Anya Да! Пока, Иван! Yes! Bye, Ivan!

Да, хорошо! — Yes, good!

  1. Anya Добрый день, Иван! Хорошо? Good afternoon, Ivan! All good?
  2. Ivan Да, хорошо! А вы? Yes, good! And you?
  3. Anya Хорошо. Пока, Иван! Good. Bye, Ivan!
  4. Ivan Пока! Добрый день! Bye! Good day!
