English · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 17

The days of the week Los días de la semana

Los días de la semana: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (más Saturday y Sunday). En inglés se escriben siempre con MAYÚSCULA. La clave es la preposición: usa ON con los días — I have class on Monday, on the weekend. Usa AT con las horas (at nine, at night) e IN con las partes del día y los meses (in the morning, in July). Palabras nuevas: day, week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, today, tomorrow, weekend. Rincón de pronunciación: las sílabas ocultas en "Wednesday" y la terminación "-day".

at Monday or on Monday? — ¿at Monday u on Monday?

  1. Emma Minsu, when do you have class? Minsu, ¿cuándo tienes clase?
  2. Minsu I have class at Monday. Tengo clase el lunes. (desliz: con los días se usa "on", no "at" — di "on Monday")
  3. Emma With days, use "on": on Monday. Con los días usa "on": on Monday.
  4. Minsu Oh, I have class on Monday and Wednesday. Ah, tengo clase el lunes y el miércoles.

The weekend — El fin de semana

  1. Jack Emma, what day is it today? Emma, ¿qué día es hoy?
  2. Emma Today is Friday. Tomorrow is the weekend. Hoy es viernes. Mañana es el fin de semana.
  3. Jack Great! Do you have class on Saturday? ¡Genial! ¿Tienes clase el sábado?
  4. Emma No, on Saturday and Sunday I don't have class. No, el sábado y el domingo no tengo clase.

The days and "on Monday" Los días y "on Monday"

The days of the week always take a capital letter: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. The key rule is the preposition of time. Use ON for days: I have class on Monday, I rest on the weekend. Use AT for clock times and night: at nine, at night. Use IN for parts of the day and months: in the morning, in the afternoon, in July. A common mistake is "at Monday" or "in Monday" — with days it is always ON. To ask the day: What day is it today? — Today is Wednesday.

Los días de la semana llevan siempre mayúscula: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. La regla clave es la preposición de tiempo. Usa ON con los días: I have class on Monday, I rest on the weekend. Usa AT con las horas y night: at nine, at night. Usa IN con las partes del día y los meses: in the morning, in the afternoon, in July. Un error común es "at Monday" o "in Monday" — con los días siempre ON. Para preguntar el día: What day is it today? — Today is Wednesday.

  • What day is it today? — Today is Wednesday. ¿Qué día es hoy? — Hoy es miércoles.
  • I have class on Monday and Thursday. Tengo clase el lunes y el jueves.
