Russian · TORFL Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 2

Спасибо Thank you

Spasíbo

The little words of politeness — спасибо, пожалуйста, извините — and new Cyrillic letters. After the five familiar ones and six "false friends" from chapter 1, we add letters with no Latin look-alike at all: Б (b), Г (g), Д (d), З (z), Л (l), П (p), Ф (f), Э (e), and the hushers Ж (zh), Ш (sh), Щ (shch), Ч (ch), Ц (ts). Remember: пожалуйста means both "please" and "you're welcome". And the question как дела is the polite opener of any conversation. Standard Russian.

Спасибо! — Thank you!

  1. Ivan Привет, Аня. Спасибо! Hi, Anya. Thank you!
  2. Anya Пожалуйста! Как дела? You're welcome! How are you?
  3. Ivan Хорошо, спасибо! А вы? Good, thanks! And you?
  4. Anya Очень хорошо. Пожалуйста! Very good. You're welcome!

Извините! — Excuse me!

  1. Anya Извините, Иван! Excuse me, Ivan!
  2. Ivan Ничего! Конечно, хорошо. It's nothing! Of course, it's fine.
  3. Anya Спасибо. До свидания! Thank you. Goodbye!
  4. Ivan Добро пожаловать! До свидания, Аня. Welcome! Goodbye, Anya.
