Bonjour Hello
Your first words of French — and the language's big challenge: nothing is read the way it is written. Three traps from the start: the nasal vowels (the on of bonjour comes out through the nose), the silent final letters (the -t of salut is not said) and the liaison (words run together). We start with greetings — bonjour, salut, bonsoir — and the everyday oui / non / d'accord. Standard French.
Dialogue
Bonjour — Saying Hello
- Lucas Bonjour ! Salut, Camille. Hello! Hi, Camille.
- Camille Salut, Lucas ! Ça... bonjour ! Hi, Lucas! Er... hello!
- Lucas Bonsoir ? Good evening? (is it evening?)
- Camille Non ! Bonjour. Au revoir ! No! Hello. Goodbye!
Dialogue
Au revoir — Goodbye
- Camille Au revoir, Lucas ! Goodbye, Lucas!
- Lucas À bientôt ! D'accord ? See you soon! Okay?
- Camille Oui, d'accord ! Yes, okay!
- Lucas À bientôt ! Au revoir. See you soon! Goodbye.
