Thứ trong tuần The days of the week
The days of the week. Vietnamese NUMBERS the days: thứ Hai (2) = Monday, thứ Ba (3), thứ Tư (4), thứ Năm (5), thứ Sáu (6), thứ Bảy (7). There is NO "thứ Một" — the week starts from Chủ nhật (Sunday), then thứ Hai. English speakers often wrongly say "thứ Một" for Monday. Use "vào" for a day: vào thứ Hai. Ask: Hôm nay là thứ mấy? Vietnamese names the days with ORDINAL NUMBERS, starting from Sunday. Chủ nhật = Sunday (day 1, but with its own name). Then: thứ Hai (2) = Monday, thứ Ba (3), thứ Tư (4 — uses "Tư", not "Bốn"), thứ Năm (5), thứ Sáu (6), thứ Bảy (7). There is NO "thứ Một" — English speakers often wrongly say "thứ Một" for Monday because they think "day one". Ask: "Hôm nay là thứ mấy?". Use "vào" (or drop it) before a day: (vào) thứ Hai tôi đi học.
- Hôm nay là thứ mấy? — Hôm nay là thứ Tư. What day is it today? — Today is Wednesday.
- Tôi có lớp vào thứ Hai và thứ Năm. I have class on Monday and Thursday.
- Ngày mai là thứ Sáu. Cuối tuần! Tomorrow is Friday. The weekend!
- Thứ Bảy và Chủ nhật là cuối tuần. Saturday and Sunday are the weekend.
