นี่คือพ่อผม This is my father
Demonstratives: "nîi/nân/nôon" stand alone (this/that/that-far): Nîi khʉʉ phɔ̂ɔ phǒm. "níi/nán" follow a noun (bâan níi = this house) — note the tone difference (nîi falling vs níi high). Use "khʉʉ" to equate things. New words: the four grandparents and house. Reading corner: short vowels –ะ, แ–ะ, เ–ะ and the นี่/นั่น tone contrast by mark.

There are two demonstrative sets. The first, "nîi/nân/nôon", stands alone as the subject: Nîi khʉʉ phɔ̂ɔ phǒm (This is my father), Nân khʉʉ bâan phǒm. The second, "níi/nán", must follow a noun: bâan níi (this house), khon nán (that person). Watch the tone — "nîi" (falling) differs from "níi" (high) though they look alike. Equate things with "khʉʉ".
