English · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 19

At the restaurant Di restoran

Makanan dan memesan di restoran. Poin besarnya adalah kata sandang — a, an, the — yang banyak bahasa (seperti Korea) tidak punya. Pakai A sebelum bunyi konsonan (a coffee), AN sebelum bunyi vokal (an hour), dan THE untuk sesuatu yang spesifik atau sudah diketahui (the menu, the waiter). Jangan hilangkan! Memesan sopan: I'd like a coffee. Can I have the menu, please? Kata baru: food, breakfast, lunch, dinner, restaurant, menu, order, waiter, coffee, tea. Sudut pengucapan: "a/the" lemah dan "r" pada "restaurant/order".

menu or the menu? — menu atau the menu?

  1. Emma Minsu, what do you want? Minsu, kamu mau apa?
  2. Minsu Can I have menu? Boleh minta menu? (slip: bahasa Inggris butuh kata sandang — ucapkan "the menu")
  3. Emma You need "the": Can I have the menu? Perlu "the": Can I have the menu?
  4. Minsu Oh, can I have the menu and a coffee? Oh, boleh minta menu dan kopi?

Ready to order — Siap Memesan

  1. Waiter Good afternoon. Are you ready to order? Selamat siang. Sudah siap memesan?
  2. Emma Yes. I'd like the lunch and a tea, please. Ya. Saya mau makan siang dan teh, tolong.
  3. Waiter Of course. Here's the menu. Tentu. Ini menunya.
  4. Emma Thank you. Terima kasih.

Articles: a / an / the Kata sandang: a / an / the

English almost always puts a small word — an article — before a singular countable noun. Use A before a consonant SOUND: a coffee, a menu, a waiter. Use AN before a vowel SOUND: an hour, an apple (it is about the sound, so "an hour" because the "h" is silent). Use THE when both people know which one: Can I have the menu? (the one on this table), The waiter is here. Many languages, like Korean, have no articles, so learners drop them — but in English you cannot say "I want coffee" as "I want a coffee" is the natural order. To order: I'd like a coffee, please.

Bahasa Inggris hampir selalu menaruh kata kecil — kata sandang — sebelum kata benda tunggal terhitung. Pakai A sebelum BUNYI konsonan: a coffee, a menu, a waiter. Pakai AN sebelum BUNYI vokal: an hour, an apple (berdasarkan bunyi, jadi "an hour" karena "h" bisu). Pakai THE saat keduanya tahu yang mana: Can I have the menu? (yang di meja ini), The waiter is here. Banyak bahasa seperti Korea tak punya kata sandang sehingga pelajar menghilangkannya — tapi dalam Inggris "I'd like a coffee" yang wajar. Memesan: I'd like a coffee, please.

  • I'd like a coffee, please. Saya mau kopi, tolong.
  • Can I have the menu, please? Boleh minta menunya?
  • I study for an hour and then I eat lunch. Saya belajar satu jam lalu makan siang.
  • The waiter brings the food. Pelayan membawa makanannya.
